Apologizing for his poor correspondence, noting that his new book and "various distractions" have made him the "worst of correspondents." Discussing Walter Dickens' death, noting that the "poor boy died in a very few moments [from an aneurysm of the aorta] and with his mind full of coming home." Expressing concern over Macready's ill health, and mentioning Thackeray, noting that Dickens is "touched by [Macready] having so felt the little paper."
